As elastomeric half mask respirators (EHMRs) become a more common type of respiratory protection used in health care settings, understanding the impact this respiratory protection has on employee experiences and perceptions becomes more critical, regardless of whether we are in a pandemic or not. In the current study, as health care personnel (HCP) encountered more barriers during EHMR use (e.g., moisture buildup, difficulty communicating, facial irritation), their negative perceptions of the safety climate increased, whereas an increase in user confidence and training perceptions was associated with an increase in safety climate.
