Ce chapitre résume certaines des recherches récentes menées en faveur de l’utilisation prolongée et de la décontamination des masques respiratoires N95 et des gants d’examen médical pendant une pandémie. Il présente également la question des activités frauduleuses et de la présence de produits contrefaits au plus fort de la pandémie.
Both N95 respirators and medical exam gloves are critical personal protective equipment (PPE) components for healthcare workers, helping protect against the spread of respiratory diseases to and from patients. At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare providers and hospitals around the world were overwhelmed with patients, which strained the global supply chain for PPE. The World Health Organization (WHO) called for a significant increase in the manufacturing of PPE to meet rising demand and to protect healthcare workers and their patients. In the USA, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued crisis capacity strategies to help address the shortages of N95 respirators and disposable medical exam gloves. These strategies included extended use and reuse of PPE, which are not recommended practices. Nevertheless, during the COVID-19 pandemic, many authorities endeavored to address shortages of PPE critical for infection control. This chapter summarizes some of the recent research conducted in support of the extended use and decontamination of N95 respirators and medical exam gloves during a pandemic. It also introduces the issue of fraudulent activities and the presence of counterfeit products during the height of the pandemic.
