OSHA has been addressing the issue of robot safety for more than 30 years. This article highlights some current efforts in this area, including the Center for Occupational Robotics Research, the result of an alliance between OSHA, NIOSH and the Robotic Industries Association who will work together to enhance OSHA’s and NIOSH’s technical expertise, improve awareness of workplace hazards associated with robots and identify areas of needed research to reduce workplace hazards.
