Le groupe de travail sur la réduction de la violence de l’hôpital de Saint-Barnabas a développé une stratégie en trois volets pour remédier aux vulnérabilités: une redéfinition physique et fonctionnelle de la zone de triage du service des urgences; le regroupement en cohorte de patients en état d’ébriété, aux problèmes comportementaux et/ou sans-abri et la normalisation de l’évaluation et du traitement de ces patients à haut risque; la gestion de programmes incluant la formation des employés à l’utilisation des techniques de désamorçage verbal et de l’outil de communication SBAR, ainsi que de nouvelles politiques, procédures et indicateurs.
St. Barnabas Hospital’s violence-reduction task force develops three-part strategy to address vulnerabilities : triage relocation — physically and functionally redesigning the ED’s triage area to better control access to the environment of care and improve triage efficiency; cohorting of intoxicated, behavioral and/or homeless (IBH) patients — standardizing the assessment and treatment of these high-risk patients; and program management — educating and training employees on the use of verbal de-escalation techniques and the SBAR [situation, background, assessment, recommendation] communication tool; rolling out new policies and procedures to enhance workflow and efficiencies; and using quality metrics.
